SUMMARY:NJPAC: Immigration\, Crossing Borders\, Navigating Identities
DESCRIPTION:Immigration: Crossing Borders\, Navigating Identities\nOct 19\nResource tables @ 5PM\nFilm screening @ 6PM\nPanel conversation @ 7PM \nGo beyond the headlines about U.S. immigrants and immigration policies and meet people who have come in search of greater opportunities for themselves and their families. How do new arrivals navigate the tension between who they are and what others ask them to become? What is lost — and what is gained — in a new country? \nIn partnership with Dodge Poetry\, the program will open with Valeria Pedraza\, a queer Mexican poet whose honors include being a 2026-2027 Emerge–Surface–Be Fellow and 2026 Undocupoets Fellow. \nThen\, The Immigration Paradox\, a documentary featuring revealing interviews from across the divide\, will be screened. A panel conversation with immigration activists will follow. \nOur panel will be moderated by Ingrid Echeverria\, Attorney and former Chair of the Asylum Committee for the American Immigration Lawyers Association. \nOur panelists include: \nSerges Demefack\, Caribbean Community Correspondent at Documented\, the only news organization in New York focused on immigration \nRalph Thomassaint Joseph\, Editor in Chief at AyiboPost\, one of Haiti’s most competitive digital news outlets \nViri Martinez\, Legislative and Political Action Manager\, Make the Road New Jersey \nAmber Reed\, Co-Executive Director\, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders of New Jersey (AAPI NJ) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nregister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
